About us

Our Identity

The Foundation of Our Work

Empowering the Next Generation in Kenya’s Lake Region.

The Story: Founded in 2020, Strong Steps Foundation (SSF) is a Kenyan-led NGO born from the belief that every child possesses intrinsic value. We advocate for the Right to Read by advancing inclusive, equitable, and quality education. Our focus is specifically on the marginalized island and lakeshore communities of Homa Bay and Migori Counties, where geographical isolation often creates barriers to basic human rights.

Our Vision

A world where every child lives a dignified life

Our Mission

To promote holistic development by providing safe spaces, championing child rights, and strengthening the community fabric

Our Strategic Approach

How We Create Sustainable Change.

We don't just provide resources; we address the root causes of educational inequality. Our strategy is built on the Triple-A Model:
Adaptation: Designing solutions tailored to the unique island geography of Lake Victoria.
Alignment: Ensuring all programs support Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Agency: Empowering local teachers and caregivers to lead their own development.

Our Core Values

Stewardship: We are responsible caretakers of the resources entrusted to us.
Creativity: We find innovative ways to reach the "unreachable" remote islands.
Partnership:We believe impact is multiplied when we work together.
Solution-Oriented: We focus on measurable results for every child.
Always Learning: We use data and community feedback to improve.

Led by Local Expertise.

Strong Steps Foundation is governed by a professional 8-member Board of Directors and a dedicated management team based in Mbita. We maintain strict safeguarding and PSEA (Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies to ensure the highest standards of integrity in all our operations.
